Prototype

UI Design skill

How to install

Prototype is Emil Kowalski's skill for exploring a design in code. Describe a piece of UI - a toast, a pricing card, a hold-to-delete button - and the agent builds several genuinely different working versions, each on its own axis such as layout, density or interaction, and puts them behind a picker so you can flip through them live. It keeps all of it away from production code until you choose a winner. It only runs when you call it.

How to install Prototype

Claude Code

For Claude Code in the terminal, the desktop app or your editor.

With the skills CLI · recommended

  1. Run this in your terminal. It installs the skill for every project; leave out -g to install it for the current project only.

By hand

  1. Copy the skill's folder into your skills folder, keeping its name:
  2. For one project only, use .claude/skills/ inside the project instead.

Using it: This skill does not load on its own: its author set it to run only when called. Start your message with /prototype.

Claude app

For claude.ai and the Claude desktop app, on Free, Pro, Max, Team and Enterprise plans.

  1. Turn on code execution: Settings → Capabilities → “Code execution and file creation”. On Team and Enterprise an owner enables skills for the organization first.
  2. Download the repository as a ZIP from GitHub (Code → Download ZIP) and unzip it.
  3. Take out the “skills/prototype” folder and zip that folder on its own. The folder name must stay “prototype”.
  4. In Claude, open Customize → Skills, click +, choose “Create skill”, then “Upload a skill”, and pick the ZIP.

Using it: Its author set this skill to run only when called, so ask for it by name, for example: “Use the Prototype skill to…”.

Codex

For OpenAI Codex: the CLI, the IDE extension and the ChatGPT desktop app.

With the skills CLI · recommended

  1. Run this in your terminal. It installs the skill for every project; leave out -g for the current project only.

With Codex's installer

  1. Ask Codex's built-in installer to fetch it:

By hand

  1. Copy the skill's folder into your skills folder, keeping its name:
  2. For one repository only, use .agents/skills/ inside it. Restart Codex if the skill does not show up.

Using it: Its author set this skill to run only when called, so mention $prototype or choose it from /skills.

Other AI tools

Cursor, Gemini CLI, GitHub Copilot, Windsurf, OpenCode and other agents that read the Agent Skills format - plus any chat model.

Coding agents · recommended

  1. Run this in your terminal. The CLI finds the agents you have installed and asks which ones to add the skill to.

Any chat model

  1. A model with no skill support can still follow one. Open the skill's SKILL.md, copy everything below the --- block at the top, and paste it into the model's custom instructions or at the start of your chat.

Using it: Its author set this skill to run only when called, so in an agent, ask for it by name. In a chat, it applies to the conversation you pasted it into.

Read the skill before you install it: its SKILL.md on GitHub. A skill is instructions your agent follows, so treat a third-party one like code you are about to run.

Prompts to try

Once the skill is installed, ask for any of these. Click one to copy it.
