Animation Vocabulary

Motion & Animation skill

How to install

Animation Vocabulary is Emil Kowalski's reverse-lookup glossary for motion. Describe an effect the way you would to a friend - "the bouncy thing when a popover opens", "the iOS rubber-band scroll" - and the agent gives you its exact term, such as pop in or rubber-banding. It is for naming an effect, not building one, which makes it useful before you prompt an AI or brief a designer.

How to install Animation Vocabulary

Claude Code

For Claude Code in the terminal, the desktop app or your editor.

With the skills CLI · recommended

  1. Run this in your terminal. It installs the skill for every project; leave out -g to install it for the current project only.

By hand

  1. Copy the skill's folder into your skills folder, keeping its name:
  2. For one project only, use .claude/skills/ inside the project instead.

Using it: Claude loads the skill on its own when your request matches what it does. To call it directly, start your message with /animation-vocabulary.

Claude app

For claude.ai and the Claude desktop app, on Free, Pro, Max, Team and Enterprise plans.

  1. Turn on code execution: Settings → Capabilities → “Code execution and file creation”. On Team and Enterprise an owner enables skills for the organization first.
  2. Download the repository as a ZIP from GitHub (Code → Download ZIP) and unzip it.
  3. Take out the “skills/animation-vocabulary” folder and zip that folder on its own. The folder name must stay “animation-vocabulary”.
  4. In Claude, open Customize → Skills, click +, choose “Create skill”, then “Upload a skill”, and pick the ZIP.

Using it: Claude uses the skill automatically when it is relevant. You can also ask for it by name, for example: “Use the Animation Vocabulary skill to…”.

By hand

  1. Copy the skill's folder into your skills folder, keeping its name:
  2. For one repository only, use .agents/skills/ inside it. Restart Codex if the skill does not show up.

Using it: Codex picks the skill up when your request matches it. To call it directly, mention $animation-vocabulary or choose it from /skills.

Other AI tools

Cursor, Gemini CLI, GitHub Copilot, Windsurf, OpenCode and other agents that read the Agent Skills format - plus any chat model.

Coding agents · recommended

  1. Run this in your terminal. The CLI finds the agents you have installed and asks which ones to add the skill to.

Any chat model

  1. A model with no skill support can still follow one. Open the skill's SKILL.md, copy everything below the --- block at the top, and paste it into the model's custom instructions or at the start of your chat.

Using it: In an agent, the skill loads when your request matches it. In a chat, it applies to the conversation you pasted it into.

Read the skill before you install it: its SKILL.md on GitHub. A skill is instructions your agent follows, so treat a third-party one like code you are about to run.

Prompts to try

Once the skill is installed, ask for any of these. Click one to copy it.
